Malwarebytes released a new component update 1.0.527 for version 3.6.1 for their anti-malware product to address Windows 7 freezing issue, the update currently can be manually downloaded and installed by clicking ‘Install Application Updates’ button in Application tab in settings.
Users need to restart their systems to apply the update and new version is available for all Windows users not just for affected systems. It may take a couple of days for the Malwarebytes to offer new setup file with the current component package on their website. The company added an update in the issue thread before releasing test build with this new information:
“We’ve now been able to reproduce the freeze in house on more systems and believe we have narrowed down the problem to multi-processor synchronization issues with our web protection code on Windows 7. We have an updated version of Malwarebytes that we’re currently testing, so far with encouraging results.”
Malwarebytes Update Problem
For the uninitiated, since December 2018, Malwarebytes paid version users suffered sporadic freezes on Windows 7 with version 3.6.1 CU 1.0.508 installed. The company unable to find the reason for the issue, which now after thorough in-house testing have been able to repro and fix the issue. After affected users confirmed they no longer noticing any issues after installing beta version on their system, the company has released a new update, this is not specific to Windows 7, all users are encouraged to upgrade to latest version.
